In a UNICEF-UNESCO joint report, the UN specialized agencies, warned that one out of every 10 children does not have access to elementary education, while one out of every five human beings at ages between 12 and 15 years does not attend classes either.
Those affected had to leave school, or never had the opportunity to go, being denied of the right to education, especially because they are poor and suffer from marginalization, the entities explained in the document circulated in the US, after its publication in London.
According to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, the research should be a call to mobilization of the necessary resources to guarantee, once and for all, access to education.
Bokova participated on Thursday in a world forum on education the British capital, in which she defended specific support to vulnerable sectors, as families displaced by conflicts, girls forced to remain at home and differently abled minors or those forced to work.
In the same event, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake asserted that the problem can only be solved if there is global commitment.
