Iran Marks Red Zone to Prevent ISIL Attacks

    January 07, 2015

Teheran: The Iranian army has marked a 40-km red zone into the Iraqi border to prevent Islamic State (ISIL) terrorists from any infiltration attempt into Iranian territories, military authorities said today.

Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan said the Islamic State has been warned they would face Iranân's harsh response if they cross the line.

"When ISIL terrorists penetrated western Iraq and were close to the Iranian borders, the Ground Forces were fully ready to annihilate them," the commander said.

Pourdastan said the Iranian army is fully familiar with tactics used by terrorists and closely monitors their movement inside Iraq, adding that after the establishment of the red zone, "the group received our message and fled the zone quickly". (KH)
