Children who have lost parents to ebola virus cared for by orphanage

    December 24, 2014

The worst Ebola outbreak on record has now killed more than 7,000 people in total across West Africa and left thousands of children orphaned. One orphanage on the outskirts of Sierra Leone’e capital Freetown is caring for Ebola orphans, who struggle to find a place to live due to stigma associated with the deadly virus.

There are more than 30 children currently at the orphanage, most of whom have lost most of their relatives. The relatives who have not been infected with Ebola have refused, however, to look after the orphaned children, fearing that children who had contact with Ebola, may infect them. The founder of the Ebola orphans project deal with their situation differently. Conteh said that in general, the girls take longer to come to terms with the fact they’ve lost their parents.
