A total of 2522 megawatts of additional power has to be added to the national power grid to meet the electricity needs by the year 2020. Several projects have already been launched to meet the future demand for electricity.
The Asian Development Bank has given 150 million US Dollars for work on the first stage of these activities. The Ceylon Electricity Board is launching this programme under the supervision of the Ministry of Power and Energy. The inking of the agreement for the provision of the required funds took place at the Finance Ministry.
