    Navy Commander addresses International Sea Power Symposium in USA

    The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe attended the International Sea Power Symposium held from 18-21 Sep 18 at US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. This year's theme was "Security, Order, Prosperity," and featured guest speakers and panel discussions to explore the common security challenges of maritime nations.

    As such, during 3 days of convention, a suitable platform was made for Navy leaders to share their thoughts on matters related to countering piracy, providing disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, coordinating search and rescue at sea, planning and conducting coalition military operations and joint law enforcement to counter arms, drug and human trafficking and also fisheries and pollution violations.

    This unique conference which was first held in 1969 in Newport, unfolded its 23rd edition this year in a bid to offer an opportunity to the participation nations to deliberate and promote international maritime security cooperation.

     On the sidelines of the symposium Vice Admiral Ranasinghe also called on Commander US Pacific Fleet, Admiral John Aquilino, Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Admiral Karl L Schuitz, Chief of the Australian Navy, Vice Admiral Michael Noonan and Commander US Central Command, Vice Admiral Scott A Stearney.
