During the brief discussion following the Credentials Ceremony, held with the President Mutharika, the High Commissioner conveyed greetings from President Maithripala Sirisena. The High Commissioner was invited by the Malawian President to work towards enhancing economic and bilateral relations between the two countries.
It was the first time an envoy from Sri Lanka presented credentials in Malawi, since establishing bilateral diplomatic relations in 2013.
Prior to presenting credentials, the High Commissioner met the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Blantyre. He delivered a brief speech on the progress made by the unity government during the last two and half years and the action taken towards reconciliation between all the ethnic groups.
