The celebration commenced with hoisting the National Flag by Tikiri Herath Gunathilake, High Commissioner which was followed by singing the National Anthem both in Sinhala and Tamil.
Thereafter, 2 minutes silence was observed in remembrance of all Sri Lankans who had sacrificed their lives for the nation.
This was followed by the lighting of the Traditional Oil lamp and multi-religious observances conducted by multi religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths.
The National day messages of President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera were read out by High Commissioner Gunathilake and members of the staff.
A cultural event was organized at the International Conference of Seychelles in the evening. A Dance troupe from University of Visual and Performing Arts performed in the event.
