The KGS program is designed with the aim of providing higher education opportunities in Korea for international students and promoting international exchanges and mutual friendships amongst the participating countries in the field of education.
A Korean Government Scholarship for a Sri Lankan student was first awarded in the year of 1978. As of February 2016, around 40 Sri Lankan recipients of the KGS have graduated from universities in Korea and about 35 students are currently studying in Korea under the KGS program. The Government of the Republic of Korea has gradually increased the number of scholarships awarded to Sri Lankan students. Confirming the above, 10 students from Sri Lanka have been awarded with the KGS to study for their Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral Degrees in Korea in the year 2016.
