The above committee established in 1948 provides leadership on health matters and relevant policy options and technical support in the south east region where the home to a quarter of the world population.

Sri Lanka works closely with this committee and the proposal made by Minister of Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senarathne, to host the 69th session of the committee to be held in Sri Lanka from 5th -9th September 2016, showcasing the progress that Sri Lanka has gained in health sector, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
