The Joint Secretaries of the Sri Lanka Unifight Federation, Mr. Nimal Weerakkody and Mr. Uditha Peiris also attended the inaugural event in introducing the sport to the services, clubs and schools. The event was attended by the officials of the Unifight Federation in Sri Lanka, Sports Ministry, Education Ministry and Service representatives.
The introductory session was successfully conducted by the newly formed Unifight pool of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Unifight is a more military-related sport and it was introduced to the Military Services in Sri Lanka recently to develop the game island-wide. Unifight is a competitive training system with a military application. Competition is formed of two consecutive stages: the first stage is an obstacle course with close-quarter battle - any missed obstacle disqualifies the contestant; the second stage is a short period of full contact hand-to-hand combat. It includes self-defence wrestling, Sambo, Judo, Jiu-jitsu, Kurash, Karate and Wushu.
More details of this sport discipline can be viewed at www.unifight.com and the NMA is fully equipped with event items to conduct tournaments with qualified judges and referees.
