The decision was reached at a special discussion held at Temple Trees on Thursday (08) with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The arrangements with regard to the Pinkama was discussed at length during this meeting.
Last year marked the 150th commemoration of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya. The series of religious ceremonies held countrywide marking the event will draw to a close with this Pinkama.
Ramanna Maha Nikaya is one of the most orthodox Buddhist orders in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1864 when Ambagahawatte Saranankara, returned to Sri Lanka after being ordained by the Neyyadhama Munivara Sangharaja of Ratnapunna Vihara in Burma. It is one of three Sri Lankan orthodox buddhist orders, along with Siam Nikaya and Amarapura Nikaya.Agga Maha Panditha the Most Ven. Napana Pemasiri Thera is the Mahanayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya.
Among those who joined in this discussion were members of the Maha Sangha including the Anunayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya the Ven. Madithiyawela Medhankara Thera, Parliamentarians, State officials and Defence Chiefs.
