    Sri Lanka Army Sports Photo Exhibition now at BMICH

    Sports Photo Exhibition organized by the Sri Lanka Army was declared open Tuesday (10) at the BMICH by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. BMUD Basnayake. The three day exhibition will be held from morning to evening untill Thursday (12) and will be open to public  free of charge.

    The sports body of the Sri Lanka Army which began with just 10 sportsmen chosen to be trained to compete at national level, can now boast of having produced a number of sportsmen and women who have brought fame and glory to Sri Lanka at national, regional and International sporting events. The Army has trained its sportsmen for 35 sporting disciplines out of the 55 main sports that are played in the country. 

     

    The exhibition has a large and rare number of photos of its sportsmen and women taken at local and international events. It can be described as an illustrative description of army sports history with many rare and well preserved pictures on display.

     

    A book on the history of army sports was presented to the Defence Secretary by the commander of the army during the ceremony.

     

    Secretary to the Ministry of Sports Mr. MIM Rafeek, former commanders of the army, senior army officers and many army sports personalities were also present at the opening ceremony.
