Sri Lanka will be sending 80 competitors including 31 officials. The competitors will compete in nine disciplines - Athletics, boxing, cricekt T20 men and women, beach volleyball, hockey, rugby 7s, sailing, wrestling and weightlifting.
Weightlifting champion Chinthana Vidanage will be the overall captain of this event for the Sri Lankan outfit. Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando will be the Chief de Mission (CDM) for the Lankan contingent.
There are 31 officials in this year’s contingent, including Dian Gomes (boxing), Jayantha Seneviratne, Romesh Kaluwitharana and Champaka Ramanayaka (cricket – men), Roshan Iddemalgoda (cricket – women), Dervin Perera (athletics), Rohan Chinthaka (rugby), Mahen Obeysekera (weightlifting), Rohan Pathirage (beach volleyball), Sarath Dissanayake (hockey) and Senaka Senevirathne (sailing).
The 17th Asian Games will take place over 16 days in Incheon, Korea, from September 19 to October 4, 2014. It will be the third time Korea has hosted the OCA’s showpiece event, following Seoul in 1986 and Pusan in 2002. There will be approximately 20,000 participants, comprised of 13,000 athletes and team officials from the 45 NOCs, and 7,000 media. The slogan is “Diversity Shines Here”.(KH)
