Sangakkara and Mathews' names onto Lord's Honours Board Featured

    June 21, 2014

Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews are the latest additions to the Away Dressing Room Honours Board.

Kumar Sangakarra and Angelo Mathews' names have been physically etched onto the Lord's Honours Board in the Away Dressing Room, to mark their centuries against England in the 1st Investec Test match.

The milestone was one that Sangakarra was desperate to achieve having failed in his previous three Test matches at Lord's to score a century on the famous Ground.

The 36-year-old hit 147 in the first innings of the England v Sri Lanka Investec Test match to join fellow Sri Lanka great and his close friend Mahela Jayawardene on the Honours Boards.

Jayawardene having scored centuries in 2002 and 2006 at the Home of Cricket.

During the same innings Sri Lanka captain Mathews also passed the landmark with his gutsy 102.

Meanwhile, England's Joe Root got his name on the Honours Board in the Home Dressing Room for the second time in his career, his 200 not out following on from 180 against Australia during the Ashes Series last year.

Fellow Yorkshireman Gary Ballance also made it onto the Board with his maiden Test hundred. His second innings 104 not out came in just his second Test match for England, slog sweeping a six to reach the landmark.
