    Committee to look into Police Department issues Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena said that he will appoint a special committee to look into issues pertaining to the Police Department.

    President Sirisena stated this during a discussion held with senior Police officers last afternoon, at the Senior Police Officers Mess.

     

    President Sirisena was warmly welcomed by the Senior Police Officers and this is the first time in 20 years that a President had visited the Senior Officers Mess.

     

    He also engaged in a cordial discussion with the Officers.

     

    During the talks, Police officers informed the President about some current issues and submitted several recommendations to overcome the anomalies in the Department.

     

    The President also paid attention to the issues related to promotions, residencies and salaries of the police officers.

     

    President Sirisena said those issues should be provided with urgent solutions. He added he would take action to give solutions to their problems within a short period of one month.

     

    Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon said the Department of Police got the opportunity to experience fullest satisfaction by executing their duties without any political influence during the last Parliamentary Election. He offered his thanks and gratitude to the President for creating the environment for that.

     

    Cabinet Minister of Law and Order and Prison Reforms, Tilak Marapana, State Minister Priyankara Jayaratne and the Secretary to the Ministry Mr. Jagath Wijeyweera also participated in this meeting.
