    The powers of the enemy should never be underestimated - President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena said the coalition of the President, Prime Minister and the Ministers is supportive to make the new political culture a reality.

    “The SLFP and the UNP have now got together by ending the disgraceful history caused by political divisions, to build this country removing the inappropriate things of politics and selecting appropriate things”, he added.

    The President made these remarks participating as the Chief Guest at the 69th anniversary of the United National Party (UNP) on Sunday (06) at Sirikotha in Pitakotte.

    “I express my thanks to the members of the UNP led by the UNP leader for selecting me as the Presidential Candidate at the last Presidential Election. It will remain as an everlasting memory in my heart”, he said.

    The President pointed out that the people have handed over the country to the new Government to fulfill their aspirations. He stated that the people are well aware of how the politicians are going to accomplish those aspirations.

    ""We should not think the enemy is weak and the powers of the enemy should never be underestimated. All attempts by those enemies to reverse the gains of the country must be roundly defeated,", the President pointed out and added, “It is an essential political theory which we should clearly understand”.

    "We should be aware about the futile attempts by those who are trying to turn our journey back, being within the country while the elamists, living beyond the ocean are trying to separate our country through ideologies", the President said.

    "When we are going forward, building a democratic good governance, we should be conscious of the enemies whoreverse our progress, the President emphasized. We should be dedicated to build a better country for the people living today as well as for the children to be born tomorrow, facing local and international challenges", he said.

    "It is essential to act with brotherhood, trust and understandingamong every race and religious groups by doing righteously among every community", he added.

    "Mainly, everybody should be committed to create the required background for people to live happily and peacefully through eliminating of poverty, minimizing of the gap between the haves and have not's, minimizing of unemployment, strengthening of free education and free health service and creating of a self-sufficient country", the President further stated.

    Ven. Athuraliya Ratana Thero, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Field Martial Sarath Fonseka also participated in this event.
