    PM says he and President expect the support of religious leaders Featured

    Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has informed the country's leaders that he expects the support of the religious leaders to carry forward religious coexistence along with national consensus.

    The Prime Minister said that he met Cardinal Dr.Malcolm Ranjith and other Bishops of the Catholic Church yesterday (25) and informed them that he and President Maithripala Sirisena expect the full support of the clergy and the Religious leaders of all faith to carry forward religious coexistence in the process of building a new country.

     

    The Prime Minister was accompanied by a group including John Amaratunga and Sagala Ratnayake.

     

    The Prime Minister also received the blessings of the Hindu and Islamic religious leaders yesterday.

     

    A special Pooja was held at the Ponnambalam Vaneshwaram Kovil in Kochchikade, Colombo to shower blessings on the Prime Minister. Kurukkal Brahmasiri Chandrasri conducted the Pooja. Minister D.M. Swaminathan and former Minister Ravi Karunanayake were among those present.


    Wickremasinghe also attended a special religious ceremony conducted at the Colombo Grand Mosque. The Prayers were conducted by Moulavis M.S.M. Thaslim and Abdul Majeed Bahaji. Mujibur Rahuman and S.M. Marikkar who were elected as Parliamentarians at the elections joined in this occasion.

     

    On Sunday, the Prime Minister called on the Chief Prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters in Kandy and received their blessings.
