The people have made this request when the President visited Kinniya and met the people there on Saturday(Aug. 22), President's Media reported.
They have told the President that the development expected by them has not yet been received to their areas. They also presented the problems faced by them to the President. These included the issues on agriculture, lands, health and education.
The Chief Minister of Eastern Province Nazeer Ahamad has made a special request from the President to develop the agriculture in Kinniya in the same way the agricultural sector in Polonnaruwa was developed.
The people drawing the President’s attention to the issue of unemployment, faced by the youth in the area have requested the President to build a machinery to create jobs for them, establishing new factories.
President Sirisena has promised to take action on that regard through the public representatives and government officer during his next visit to Kinniya. He has told them he visited Kinniya on Saturday without any invitation as he wanted to look into the wellfare of the people whom he considers as his brothers.
The President has stated that as a government he would implement a new program to develop the agricultural sector. He has expressed his confidence about the transformation which will take place in the country through the local food production program. “Every crop which could be grown in this country will be cultivated within the country, under this program” he has said.
He has also assured that the fishing industry will be boosted through new technologies and plans extending the opportunities to increase the income in the area. The President has has stated that his ambition is to take the country forward according to new plan, as a new government. He said he would give the opportunity to the people in the country by enabling the public representatives of the area to carry out the development work of the in their areas. “It will be done by devoluting the powers to provincial development committees” he has said.
Governor of the Eastern Province Austin Fernando, Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamad, Rauf Hakeem, Lakshman Kiriella, M. K. D. S. Gunawardena, Daya Gamage, M. S. Nawfik, and former Chief Minister of Eastern Province Najeed Abdul had participated in this occasion.
President Sirisena who arrived in Kinniya had been warmly welcomed by the people of the area. Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people in the area have paid tribute to the President.
