    May 24, 2014
The nutrition level of 75 percent of schoolchildren is satisfactory and the government's aim is to improve it further by providing free mid-day meals and fresh milk to students, Education Services Minister Duminda Dissanayake said in Parliament.

Responding to a question by UNP MP Sajith Premadasa, the minister said out of the four million school children in the country, three million have satisfactory nutrition levels. He said free mid-day meals are provided to schools with less than 100 students and students in other schools with low nutrition levels.

"The height and weight of the students are taken into consideration when selecting students for the free mid- day meal program.
