    National programmes to address three major concerns

    President Maithripala Sirisena said that the government will implement national programmes to address three major concerns of the country - local food production, drug prevention and environmental conservation, after the upcoming General Election.

     

    Addressing a meeting with representatives of the organization on environment and animal violence on Thursday (02), President Sirisena pointed out that initial action in this regard has already been finalized by the Presidential Secretariat together with relevant institutions. The discussion also focused on elephant man conflict and relevant incidents that took place during the last regime. The President assured to conduct investigations into these incidents  in near future and the wrong doers will be brought to the books.

     

    Three special reports prepared by the Organization on Environment and Animal Violence was presented to the President.  The reports included environment problems that should be solved immediately, fresh water fish exports as well as illegal possession of elephants.
