Addressing a function organized on Tuesday (23) to mark National Housing Day at the Debarawewa Public Ground in Tissamaharama, the Prime Minister said the people had many aspirations after the war, but these were not met. It is to meet these aspirations that revolution will be launched.
He noted that general public became poor and lost access to free services such as education and health in the last five years. But a handful became super rich and started earning money through scams and corruption. He further said the entire Parliament will be made a Government after the elections and assured to reveal the details of the program within two weeks.
At the function, the Prime Minister handed over checks to recipients of housing loans. He was also presented with a First Day Cover and the Housing Day Flag released to mark National Housing Day.
Housing and Samurdhi Minister Sajith Premadasa expressing his views revealed that the government's plan is to provide shelter for all within the next five years.
The Minister said that massive grabbing of land had taken place in the Hambantota District during the previous regime making around1.5 million families homeless now.
