    Parliament adjourned until June 9

    Parliament which met today was adjourned until June 9

     
    A special parliamentary session was called this morning by the Speaker of House Chamal Rajapaksa following a request made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. According to Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella  three names for the Executive Council was  subject for discussion.
     
     
    The Speaker adjourned the sitting for a short while at 10:30 a.m., following a request for a party leaders’ meeting to reach a consensus on the three civil representatives nominated for the constitutional council.
     
     
    The three civil nominees for the constitutional council were: prominent civil society representative Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne; former UN Under-Secretary General Radhika Commaraswamy and former Supreme Court Justice Abdul Waheed Abdul Salam.
     
     
    When the Parliament re-commenced at 1pm, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said more time is required to submit a written proposal nominating civil members to the  Consittutional Council and that the special session be adjourned.
     
     
    Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa announced that Parliament will meet again on June 9 after both the Government and opposition agreed to adjourn today’s sessions.
