    President pledges to preserve democracy within the SLFP

    President Maithripala Sirisena emphasised that the country can progress only through peaceful coexistence among all communities. He pointed out that terrorists in the calibre of Velupillai Prabhakaran emerged due to continuing racial friction in the country. Therefore he urged all SLFP Mmebers not to create ethnic divisions in the country.

    Addressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Matale District Convention held in Dambulla on Sunday (26), the President saying such a possibility should not be allowed in the future and urged all SLFP Members to refrain from creating ethnic divisions in the country.


    President Maithripala Sirisena also stressed the democracy, peace and media freedom won must not be misused.


    The President also promised to take the SLFP forward by preserving democracy within the party. President Maithripala Sirisena said all members should unite to strengthen the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and guide it towards victory.


    SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon also spoke on the occasion.
