    Sri Lanka marks International Nurses' Day 2014 Featured

    Marking the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale who laid the foundation of professional nursing, Sri Lanka today celebrated International Nurses' Day and honored the country's nurses.

    The 2014 International Nurses' Day ceremony under the theme .“Nurses: A Force for Change – A vital resource for health” was held at BMICH in Colombo today (12) under the patronage of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa

     

    Addressing the function President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that s special program has been initiated to provide relief to people who are affected by drought in the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa districts in the North Central.

     

    The President also said that every person in the country should get the benefits of the health sector and it is the responsibility of the parties concerned to save the people in the dry zones from the risk of chronic kidney disease.

     

    Expressing optimism that the nurses would fulfill their responsibilities, the President said his government is always dedicated to provide a quality health service without being restricted to physical development.

     

    Representatives of Nurses' Associations, appreciating the yeoman service  being rendered by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to strengthen the Nursing service presented the President with a momentum.

    The President also presented awards to the former members of the Public Service United Nurses Association.

     

    President of the  Nurses' Union venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero, Minister Maithreepala Sirisena, Minister Rajitha Senarathna, Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake, Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatilleke, and Director General of health Services Dr. Palitha Maheepala were also present at the occasion.sent.
