    President distributes aid to owners of flood damaged houses in Polonnaruwa District

    Politicians as well as public officials should dedicate themselves to fulfill the needs of the public said President Maithripala Sirisena. He further said that it is the responsibility of the government to look into the welfare of the people during disaster situations.

    The President expressed these comments on Monday (23) at the Buddhi Hall in Polonnaruwa while distributing aid to the owners of houses  completely and partly damaged  in the  Polonnaruwa  District due to floods in December 2014.

     
    He further assures that a special project will be implemented to safeguard the people in Polonnaruwa who suffer from floods. Such a project was not implemented so far although discussions were held and the time has come to implement this project, he further added.


    Assistance worth 35 million rupees were distributed and it covered all the Divisional Secretariats in the Polonnaruwa District.

     

    Minister John Amaratunge, Deputy Minister Vasantha Senanayake, Political Representatives, T.M.K.B.Tennakoon, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs  and   Nimal Abeysiri District Secretary of Polonnaruwa were also present on the occasion.
