Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, is the Chairman/CEO of Aitken Spence Maritime, Logistics & Cargo and Director - Aitken Spence PLC (Main Board). He heads Aitken Spence Maritime overseas team - the first Sri Lankan Company to venture in to Port Efficiency management overseas, in the African continent and also the first Sri Lankan company to pursue a public private partnership overseas, in South Pacific Islands. He is also the Joint Managing Director of CINEC Maritime Campus, considered as the best in South Asia with an annual student intake of 19,500. He is also a Director of Fiji Ports and Terminals Ltd.
Dr. Dissanayake is a former Chairman/CEO of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and also a former Chairman of state owned Jaya Container Terminals Ltd., and Sri Lanka Port Management Consultancy Services Ltd. SLPA, which owns and manages all Ports in Sri Lanka including the Port of Colombo, the largest Container Port in South Asia handling an annual throughput of approx.. 4.5 million TEUs has a workforce of approximately 15,000. During his tenure SLPA was ranked as the most profitable Public Sector Organization in Sri Lanka by Dunn Bradstreet Corp., of UK.
Dr. Dissanayake who serves on the UN/UNCTAD Panel as an expert on Ports & Shipping is a Past Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Past Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (Sri Lanka branch) and a Past Chairman of the Central Advisory Council of Sri Lanka Transport Board. He is a member of the Faculty Industry Consultative Board of the University of Moratuwa, Past Co-Chairman- Transport Cluster, National Council of Economic Development of the Presidential Secretariat and currently serves as Chairman of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce - Steering Committee on Ports, Shipping, Aviation and Logistics.
Dr. Dissanayake who has obtained his MBA/PhD and qualified as a Chartered Marketer (FCIM) U.K., is the first Sri Lankan to have obtained both the highest Chartered qualifications in Shipping (FICS/Chartered Shipbrokers) U.K., and Transport & Logistics (Chartered Fellow Logistics and Transport) UK. He is also the only individual to chair both the highest professional bodies in the Maritime and Transport Logistics sectors in Sri Lanka. (Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (U.K.) and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (U.K.) Sri Lanka branch. He has authored numerous articles and presented papers on Shipping, Ports and Marketing related matters.
