The President made this declaration during a meeting with representatives of Joint Trade Union Alliance at BMICH premises yesterday (Dec. 09). The meeting was attended by leaders of the Joint Trade Union Alliance and many regional representatives from across the island.
Making a pledge before the President, the representatives of the Trade Union Alliance who joined in this meeting said they would be extending their maximum support to President Rajapaksa as he is the only state leader who granted relief to the working class fulfilling the demands of the Trade Unions. They emphasized their preparedness to bring victory to the President at the forthcoming Presidential election. General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Workers Union Leslie Devendra presented their pledge to President Rajapaksa.
Addressing the gathering the President said that he was expecting the support of all sections in his efforts to implement his future plans. The war was ended and stability brought to the country. And now the responsibility is to build a disciplined country for the generations to come, he said.
The President said that they have now entered this path. He also told the gathering that their support is frequently needed to achieve this goal. Various local and foreign conspiracies are in place within the country and action should be taken to overcome such conspiracies, the President said.(KH/PRIU)
