    President outlines Governments efforts to help differently abed persons Featured

    The President told the gathering that disabilities should not be considered as obstacles to emerge victorious in life. He said that there are scientists, literati, politicians, entrepreneurs and professionals who have come up in life despite disabilities.

     

    He pointed out that the people who are not seeing the existing development moves can be really considered as disabled groups. Some opposition elements are pretending not to see the ongoing development.

     

    President outlined the government’s efforts in recognising their value, treating them as equals, rewarding their hard work and providing them with support and avenues to win in life, He also recalled much assistance given to encourage economic enterprises of persons with disabilities during the government of Premier Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

     

    President Rajapaksa was speaking at the national ceremony to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, at Temple Trees with the participation of over 5,000 persons with disabilities.

     

    Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Felix Perera, Secretary Imelda Sukumar and Parliamentarian J.R.P. Sooriyapperuma also were present. (KH)
