As a part of the greater national development drive, the Government launched the programme of building houses for families who are living with less-facilities. These new houses are equipped with all essential facilities to provide shelter for families living in underserved settlements.
The programme has been mooted under the concept of granting a house for every family based on the Mahinda Chintana and under taken by the Urban Development Authority under the supervision of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The 'Laksanda Sevana' housing scheme comprise of 216 modern housing units. Each 450 square feet housing unit consists of living area, two bed rooms, pantry and a balcony with all amenities including proper sanitary facilities built at a cost of over Rs. 8 million. In addition elevators, spacious car parking facilities, community halls and public convenience places are some of the other facilities here. Simultaneously to the housing project measures were taken to develop the adjacent road network in order to create easy access to the housing scheme.
"Muwadora Uyana" Housing Project consisting 872 housing units is to be opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 08.(KH)
