Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the driving force behind the urban development programme was also present at the occasion. Chairman of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) Nimal Perera delivered the welcome address at the outset of the event.
During the ceremony legal documents to the houses were also handed over to the beneficiaries by the President.
The mega housing scheme is comprised of 546 modern housing units.
Each 450 square feet housing unit consists of living area, two bed rooms, pantry and a balcony with all amenities including proper sanitary facilities built at a cost of over Rs. 8 million. In addition elevators, spacious car parking facilities, community halls and public convenience places are some of the other facilities here. Simultaneously to the housing project measures were taken to develop the adjacent road network in order to create easy access to the housing scheme.
Another Two housing projects namely "Laksanda sewana" Kolonnawa and "Muwadora Uyana" consisting of 216 and 872 housing units respectively are to be opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 01 and 08. (KH)
