President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the "Randiya Uyana" housing scheme consisting of 1137 housing units in Hememulla on Mattakkuliya on his birthday (18). The President also presented the ownership of the houses to the families.
Each housing unit is valued at Rs 8 million and has a space of over 450 square feet, two bedrooms, living area, a veranda, a kitchen and sanitary facilities. The Government has also constructed sports grounds, children's parks, road networks and community halls for each housing scheme. The constructions of the housing units were carried out under the directions of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in keeping with the Mahinda Chintana Vision for the Future.
Senior Minister A.H.M.Fowzie, Minister Wimal Weerawansa, Project Minister Nirmala Kotalawala, Deputy Minister Prabha Ganeshan, Parliamentarian Duminda Silva were present.(KH)
