The main ceremony was held at the C.W.W.Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya in Mallawapitiya, Kurunegala. Before atending the main ceremony, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the chief Guest of the ceremony symbolically handed over the first house to P.M.C. Pushpakumara of the Sri Lanka Navy at Meegolla, Hindagolla in Kurunegala
This is the second stage of houses built for War Heroes of the Tri Forces in the Kurunegala district. The Sri Lanka Navy carried out the construction of these houses.
In parallel to the housing project a special programme was implemented to develop the roads and schools in the area. The school children in the project areas were also presented with stationery and other schooling needs. The President also unveiled the Mahindodaya Science laboratory constructed under Mahindodaya 1,000 school development program at C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by the war heroes to eliminate the terrorism from the country, launched the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project for the war heroes in 2009 under the direct supervision of the Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
So far houses have been built covering Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara, Hambantota, Monaragala, Badulla, Galle, Ampara, Matara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kalutara, Kegalle, Polonnaruwa, Gampaha, Ratnapura, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo districts.
The project the Chair Person of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa extends her fullest support to carry out the project. Each house thus constructed is valued at around Rs. 4.5 million.
