    SriLankan Airline to purchase 6 new A330 crafts

    The national carrier, SriLankan Airlines is planning to purchase ten new aircrafts from France to be added to its fleet at a cost of Rs 161.4 billion.  


    Minister of Civil Aviation, Priyankara Jayaratne said this in response to a question posed by UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe during the question and answer session in Parliament today.


    The Minister said that out of the 10 aircrafts to be purchased, six of which are A330-300 aircrafts would be financed by lessor and that Sri Lankan Airlines had already entered into sale and leaseback arrangements.


    Funding for the remaining for aircrafts, A350-900 aircrafts, have not yet been finalized as delivery would only commence in 2020.


    Sri Lankan Airlines incurred a loss of Rs 51,029.6 million from January 2013 to July 2014 while Mihin Lanka sustained a loss of Rs 4,175.2 million during the same time period. (Special Reporter/HC)
