    Drinking water provided to Kandy not polluted

    Local Government and Provincial Council Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake said in Parliament today that drinking water provided by the National Water Supply Board’s Kandy branch were tested regularly to assure that they were free of contamination.


    Responding to a question raised by UNP Matara District MP Buddhika Pathirana, the Minister said that water provided to the Kandy municipal area had been inspected and monitored through Water Treatment Plant and Water Level Monitoring and Pump Automation System at the NWSB Kandy branch.


    The Deputy Minister rejected MP Pathriana’s allegation that the Kandy Municipal Council dumped garbage at Gohagoda area polluting water of the Mahaweli River. “Water of the Mahaweli River are being tested repeatedly at the Pologolla testing centers too. NWSB officials are vigilant of the condition of water of the river and drinking water being distributed to people. There is a project being implemented for garbage disposal management.
