    Guilty would be punished irrespective of party colours

    Hundred and four members who got elected for the Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Councils and Provincial Councils had allegations leveled against them with regard to corruption, crimes and other illegal activities during last ten years, Local Government and Provincial Councils Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake said in Parliament today.


    Responding to a query raised by UNP Ratnapura District MP Ranjan Ramanayake, the Deputy Minister said that of those MPs accused of various crimes 44 were of the UPFA, 36 were of the UNP, two were from the JVP and 22 from various other parties. Legal action had been instituted against 103 of them and of them 57 had been found guilty for the allegations against them.

     

     

    The government would take punitive actions against those would be found guilty irrespective of their party colours, the Deputy Minister said. (Special Reporter/HC)
