    Police investigating into disappearance of equipment from Dept of Persons Registration

    The police was conducting investigations into the incident of disappearance of 11 secured cards and two multimedia equipments used to prepare National Identity Cards in the Department of Registration of Persons last year, Chief Government Whip Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said in Parliament today (21).

     

    Responding to a question raised by DNA National List MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Minister said that if the investigations conducted by the police found unsatisfactory the case would be handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department.

     

    Police so far not arrested anyone responsible for taking away the 11 secured cards and two multimedia equipments as none had been identified yet, the minister said.

     

    Minister Gunawardena said that the loss incurred by the disappearance of the secured cards and equipment would be recovered  from those responsible once they would be caught and necessary action had been taken to prevent similar incidents in future. (Special Reporter)
