The President inaugurated the sixth phase of the project countrywide at the auspicious time of 10:07 a.m. on Monday October 20 with the planting of a coconut sapling, facing the East.
Minister S.M.Chandrasena, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Economic Development Ministry Secretary Nihal Jayatunga, Divi Neguma Director General R.A.A.K.Ranawaka were present on the occasion.
Under the 6th Phase of Divi Neguma Programme which envisages the creation of 2.5 Million Domestic Economy Units, it is planned to distribute 2.5 million seed packets, 1.6 million fruit plants, 2.5 million coconut seedlings, 12.6 million vegetable plants, 01 million minor export crop plants, 1.28 million perennial crop plants, 0.2 million medicinal herbs and 1.0 million kathuru Murunga plants. Distribution of Pullets and milk cows is also arranged in order to ensure livestock development while a programme for establishing 1000 aquatic ponds will be launched to ensure promotion of ornamental fish breeding. It is also planned to construct cattle sheds, milk cold rooms, small scale dairies and hatcheries in addition to a special programme aimed at the development of fishery.
Further, it is also planned to introduce separate gardening programmes for schools and public institutions.
