    President opens “Sirisanda Sevana” New Housing Scheme

    The Colombo Bloemendhal “Sirisanda Sevana” New Housing Scheme was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday (17) evening making a reality of the programme of moulding a country devoid of slums.

    A significant programme is in place to build a Sri Lanka sans slum dwellings within the nexvt two years through the Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future.

     

    The country has entered a prosperous era effecting a development revolution under the leadership of the President and the able guidance and total supervision of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

     

    President Rajapaksa after unveiling a commemorative plaque symbolically handed over the keys of the houses to its owners.

     

    Under the low income housing programme, 70000 housing units would be built and constructions of 15000 are taking place in 18 project sites in the city at present.

     

    The entire project with houses consists of a living area, two bed rooms, pantry, balcony and other amenities together with proper sanitary facilities have been erected at a cost of over Rs. 1200 million. Moreover, public convenience places, play grounds, spacious car parking facilities etc... too are available.

     

    Present on the occasion were Maha Sangha and other religious leaders, Senior Minister A.H.M.Fowzie, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Susil Premajayantha, Wimal Weerawansa, Parliamentarians Duminda Silva, Thilanga Sumathipala, Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Western Province Minister Naufer Fowzie, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.(KH).
