    President Chief Guest at 5th Symposium on Plantation Crop Research Featured

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa participated as the Chief Guest at the Fifth Symposium on Plantation Crop Research held at the BMICH, Colombo on Wednesday (15).

    Plantation Crop Research Symposium is organized biannually by the four plantation crop research institutes of Sri Lanka (the Tea Research Institute, Rubber Research Institute, Coconut Research Institute and Sugarcane Research Institute) to make a forum for scientists, industrialists, investors, plantation managers, academics and policy makers to share the knowledge and experience to work together and towards the development of plantation economy in the country.

     

    This year the fifth symposium is organized by the Sugarcane Research Institute with the collaboration of other three crop research institutes under the theme of “Towards a green plantation economy”, having the emphasis on plantation crop production with protection of environment.

     

    During the event the President gave away awards to scientists in recognition of their research in plantation sector.

     

    Minister Lakshman Senevirathna, Deputy Minister Earl Gunasekera, Sugar Industries Secretary Udaya Senevirathna, Plantation Industry Secretary Dr.Damitha de Zoysa were present. (KH)
