President Rajapaksa and Prime Minister of Malta Meet to Discuss CHOGM Featured

    September 27, 2014

NEW YORK: President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat held talks on Thursday, (Sept. 25) afternoon on the sidelines of the 69th United Nations General Assembly at the U.N. Headquarters in New York City.

The two leaders met primarily to discuss the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which is scheduled to take place in Malta in 2015 and at which Malta will take over as Chair in Office from Sri Lanka.

President Rajapaksa said, after hosting a successful CHOGM last year, Sri Lanka is looking forward to helping Malta by sharing Sri Lanka’s experiences with officials working on the arrangements for the next meeting.

“We look forward to working closely with you,” Prime Minister Muscat told President Rajapaksa.

The two countries agreed to collaborate closely to ensure a smooth transition and to facilitate even better cooperation and decision-making among member states at the next summit.
