    Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Calls on President Rajapaksa Featured

    Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa Monday (08)  at Temple Trees.

    The President thanked Cuba for supporting Sri Lanka at international forums, particularly at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and also for the higher education scholarships that the Caribbean country has provided for Sri Lankan students.

     

    Minister Parrilla said that Cuba is always happy to assist Sri Lanka whenever possible. “We feel very confident with the excellent relations between our two countries – the special bond we share,” the Minister said. “In this very dangerous international situation, there is also an opportunity for cooperation.”

     

    Minister Parilla also commended Sri Lanka’s non-aligned foreign policy and stated that his country will do its best to continue supporting Sri Lanka because Cuba sees a promising future for Sri Lanka – Cuba relations.

     

    The discussion also focused on other matters of mutual interest such as fighting the spread of dengue, learning from Sri Lanka’s agricultural practices and overall international relations, including regional cooperation.

     

    The Minister was accompanied by the Head of Mission of the Cuban Embassy in Sri Lanka Mrs. Indira Lopez Arguelles.Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Secretary to the President  Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Mrs. Kshenuka Senewiratne were present for the meeting. (KH)
