Monagarala District program will continue till July 6th with a targeted group of 479,000 people from 319 Grama Niladhari Divisions in Badalkumbura, Bibile, Buttala, Katharagama, Madulla Medagama, Monaragala, Sevanagala, Siyambalanduwa, Thanamalvila, Wellawaya Divisional Secretariats in Monaragala District.
Under the direction of Presidential Secretariat a several programs including National Drug Prevention Program, Protect Children, Smart Sri Lanka, National Food Production Program, Dengue Prevention, Prevention of Kidney and Non-Communicable Disease, Environmental Protection, Empowerment of Elderly People and Special Needs will be held this week in Monaragala. Also, special programmes will be carried out to provide solutions to the issues agriculture, housing and land, vocational and health which have a direct impact to the people living in the area.
In addition ‘Tell the President’ (Janapathita Kiyanna) would also be held in several venues during the week, providing people the opportunity to convey their concerns and issues directly to the President.
Today (4) was the fourth day of the Monaragala District Programme and it proved to be a very successful with the participation of a large crowd.
A special consultation program for senior citizens was conducted today morning at the Moragala Division Secretariat Office. During a separate programme a group of students were awarded scholarships. A programme to distribute water pumps and plants was held at Wellwaya Divisional Secretariat.
A walk and a programmes on drug prevention were conducted with the participation of students of Wellassa Central College, Bibila.
Monaragala stands out among the 11 districts that have been identified to be vulnerable for kidney diseases as over 1459 people reported to be affected by the diseases in the district. Various programs related to kidney disease prevention were conducted in Siyambalanduwa, Thanamalvila, Buttala and Wellawaya.
As a part of this programme 19 Reverse Osmosis Plants worth Rs. 23 million will be installed bringing relief over 47,500 families. Some of the projects under this programme were launched today with the participation of government officials in respective areas.
Programmes to introduce chemical-free indigenous rice varieties to families affected by the kidney disease, awarding scholarships to needy students and clinics for early detection of kidney patients were also conducted.
