Deputy Minister of Livestock and Rural Community H.R. Mithrapala said in Parliament today (21) that the UNP should take the responsibility of the collapse of milk production industry paving the way for loss of cattle and milk production by importing milk powder since 1977.
Responding to a question raised by UNP Kurunegala District MP Ashok Abeysinghe, the minister said the government had taken action to import high productive milch-cows and promote the production of calves by means of artificial insemination. The cattle farmers were provided with funds to prevent diseases among animals. The President took action to increase the price of a litre of liquid milk from Rs 33 to Rs 50 to help the cattle farmers. (Special Reporter/HC)
