    Present development drive is for the citizens but not for the benefit of politicians says President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that the present development drive is for the welfare of the citizens of the country, but not for the benefit of the politicians.The President made these remarks participating in the opening of the Hingurakgoda modern bus halt with a two-storey shopping centre, last Wends day (01st).

    60 projects out of 180 development projects which have been completed under the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa (Awakening of Polonnaruwa)” District Development Programme vested in the public by the President today.Expressing his views, the President further said that the government is currently being implemented the large-scale investment projects which were expected by the ordinary people of this country with the political transformation in the country on 8 January 2015.

    The President also emphasized that he will fully commit to protect the trust people placed in him on 8 January 2015 to live happily in a free society where democracy is ensured. The President said that he did not allow any irregularities to occur in the current development programmes as a person who is totally opposed to fraud and corruption and said that he believes it as a policy to use the resources of the people for their own benefit.

    The Hingurakgoda modern bus halt with a two-storey shopping centre has been constructed with all the facilities. The President made an observational visit of the bus halt after vesting it with the public. He also participated in a ceremony to hand over the keys of homes to 10 underprivileged recipients.

    Ministers and MPs, including Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Deputy Ministers Ashoka Abeysinghe, Sarathi Dushmantha, Parliamentarians Nalaka Kolonne and Sampath Sri Nilantha, Polonnaruwa District Secretary Ranjith Ariyarathna and others were among those who attended the event.The Medirigiriya bus halt constructed with all the facilities also vested in the public by the President.

    Later, the President joined in the opening of the administrative building constructed at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Primary School in Medirigiriya. The students of the school warmly received the President when he arrived at the school. Already steps have been taken to complete a lot of inadequacy at the school , including providing three-storey building at a cost of Rs.2208 million and allocating Rs.32 million to develop the playground of the school under the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa District Development Programme. The students extended their gratitude to the President for initiating these development projects for the benefit of the school.

    Afterwards, the President participated in the opening of the Irrigation Management Office in Medirigiriya. President Sirisena also vested many development projects implemented at the Hingurakgoda District Hospital. Accordingly, the President opened the kidney disease Treatment Unit building built at a cost of Rs.7.1 million, Dental Surgery Unit built at a cost of Rs.20 million and Medical Officers’ Housing Complex built at a cost of Rs.104 million.Ministers and MPs, including Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and the Polonnaruwa District Secretary Ranjith Ariyarathna participated on this occasion.

    Granting approximately 60 projects completed under Pibidemu Polonnaruwa district development programme for the public was conducted within the day. It is scheduled to grant 60 projects today as well as within day after tomorrow to the public.A lot of projects of the district are being granted to the public under Pibidemu Polonnaruwa district development program despite for more than 100 projects opened within 2015-2018, the work of these 180 projects has been completed. The cost spent on the total project is Rs.6 billion.

    The significant feature evident in the Pibiemu Polonnaruwa development programme which grants projects to the public is the contribution from experts, and artists. The people of the district were gathered in the event in numbers for these occasions with much awakening and it was special that public representatives were gathered here without any political barrier.

    The new administrative building of Bakamuna hospital, kidney disease clinical unit building, and other development projects were granted for the public under the patronage of Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous medicine Minister Rajitha Senaratne. Member of Parliament Nalaka Kollonne, Former Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayarathna, Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayawardenapura Prof.Sampath Amaratunga were present in this event.

    Then the opening of the primary medical unit of Hikurakgoda Hathareskotuwa spending Rs.7.3 million, the official residence of medical officers spending Rs.7.3 million, the dual medical officer’s residence built spending Rs.23 million took place with the participation of Minister Rajitha Senaratne and other ministers.

    Launching the project, Nearest School is the best School in The Girithalegama Maha Vidyalaya and opening the new dental clinic building took place under the participation of Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Member of Parliament Dilan Perera, and Vice Chancellor of University of Kelaniya Prof.D.M.Semasingha.

    Granting the new classrooms of the Palliyagodella Annur Junior School and Nugagahadamana Junior School for the usage of the students took place under the patronage of Deputy Minister Kadar Mastan, and North Province Governor Reginald Cooray.The Ela-hara Pokurugama water supply system was granted for the usage of the people by Minister Mangala Samaraweera, and State Minister Mohan Lal Grero. Ministers gathered in granting development projects of numerous schools in Ela hara Divisional Secretariat for the students. Starting the constructions of three floor classroom building of Nagalakanda Maha Vidyalaya of Hikurakgoda and opening the dual residence for teachers and opening the single floor Bhikku residence of Hikurakgoda Rathmale Sri Bodhirukkarama ancient Vihara took place by Minister Vasantha Senanayake, and State Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake.

    Meanwhile the construction of the half completed Residence for Mahasangha at Sri Mihidu Maha Viharaya of Ela hara, Kottapitiya was completed under the Pibidemu Polonnaruwa District Development project where the amount spent on this was Rs.3.2 million.Minister Daya Gamage, State Minister Lakshman Senevirathne, Vice Chancellor of Wayamba University Prof.E.M.P.Ekanayake, were gathered in opening the project.Offering the two floor building composed of boarding facilities for the Bhikkus of Hikurakgoda Jayamaha Pirivena spending Rs.3.39 million for the Sangha also took place today. Minister Lucky Jayawardena and Deputy Minister Sarathi Dushmantha Mitrapala were present in this event.

    Two water supply projects built in Kahalagala Unagalavehera areas were granted for the usage of the public today under the patronage of Minster of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem. The amount spent on this project was Rs.126.6. million.
