A large number of Islamic leaders as well as Islamic devotees were present at this event while blessings were invoked for peace, and national reconciliation.
President Sirisena, addressing the audience stated that this is a milestone on the programme to develop reconciliation and wellbeing between ethnic communities.
The expectation of the current government is peace and stability and the reconciliation built on trust between each and all ethnicities, said the President adding that every possible commitment will be made as a government in order to achieve that.
The Islamic religious leaders praised the steps taken by the government on behalf of national reconciliation. The first copy of the Sinhala version of Al-Quran was also presented to the President.
Ministers Faiszer Musthapha, Rauff Hakeem, Rishad Bathiudeen, Abdul Haleem, State Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, and other officials and foreign ambassadors as well as distinguished guests were present in this event.
