    Be vigilant about unfair treatment of students by some teachers, says President Featured

    President Maihripala Sirisena says that it has been revealed about the unfair treatment to students by some teachers. These are evident in the facts revealed in the letters and phone calls received by him and during certain discussions held. They also highlight details about the quality and excellence of the interconnection between the teacher and student as well the unfair treatment to students by some teachers.

    President Sirisena said that the authority should consider immediately about these wrong doings. Participating in a function held in Wayamba National college of education Bingiriya held today(23), The President explained the difference between the era where teaching was considered as a service more than merely a profession and the present era where teaching is considered just a profession. He added that teaching is considered the greatest of all professions which holds the complete responsibility of building a nation and the future of the country and it is not second to any other profession.

    President Sirisena who mentioned that according to the surveys done it is revealed that there are eight percent to nine percent of teachers who are not eligible out of the profession over the total two hundred fifty thousand teachers in service, said that it is not through qualifications but through the weaknesses shown in terms of respect, dedication, skill and ability to their service.

    The newly built water cleansing system of Wayamba National College of Education was offered for the usage of the students. The weaknesses that are evident in the teaching service, government service and political arena should be removed as a nation marching towards success said the President. He said that the reputation and dignity of any field is secured due to the character and good image that these professionals display.

    Fulfilling a promise given to students when he participated in the State Vesak festival held at Bingiriya Devagiri Rajamaha Viharaya on 28th of April 2018 when his plane landed at the stadium of Wayamba National College of Education, he made financial allocations to provide a water cleaning system and constructions were completed by the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy. Thus providing the necessary solutions to the severe water problem in the Wayama National College of Education which was started in the year of 2000 the problem of water, which the students had to face from the beginning   for clean water has been solved after 20 years. The new water purification system was vested with the students by the President.Later he presented certificates to the students with outstanding performances. A special token of appreciation was presented to the President.

    Ministry of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Chief Minister of North Western Province, Dharmasiri Dassanayake, MP Nalin Bandara, Chairman of SLFP Youth Front, former Deputy Minister Shantha Bandara, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, North Western Provincial Education Officers, teachers and others were present on this occasion.
