International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated every year all around the world on 12th of May to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale and to mark the nurses’ contributions towards people’s health. Each year, nurses in Sri Lanka also celebrate this day in a graceful manner.
This year’s celebration was held with the participation of more than 2,500 nurses under the theme ‘Health is a human right’. The ceremony commenced paying floral tributes to the statue of Florence Nightingale and the souvenir compiled to mark the 2018 International Nurses Day celebration was presented to the President.
The Guest Lecture of the ceremony was delivered by Professor (Dr.) Nihal De Silva. The Chairman of The Public Service United Nurses Union, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero, Minister of Health Rajitha Senarathne, National Hospital’s Senior Nurse, Pushpa Ramyani Soyza and others participated in this event.
