    LAW WILL BE APPLIED AGAINST CORRUPTION IRRESPECTIVE OF STATUS - PRESIDENT

    President Maithripala Sirisena stated that he will support to strictly enforce law against anyone involved in bribery or corruption despite their status. He made this comment speaking at the function held yesterday at Royal College, Polonnaruwa in celebration of the international Day of the Midwife.

    Speaking on the recent arrest of the President’s Chief of Staff he stated that both the public service sector and the political sector should continuously be assed. “The position of the chief of staff is a grater position. When you look at these recent incident three persons who were serving as the Chief of Staff under three Presidents have been arrested on corruption.” President said.

    Speaking further the President said that public servants and politicians should always maintain higher ethical standards.“I have taken very clear steps against corruption, bribery, misuse of state property and other unethical practices. I have also appointed a commission to look into the mismanagement of SriLankan Airlines. This commission too will make vital revelations to the country,” President said.He further stated that as a government they will take all necessary action to eliminate corruption.
