President Mahinda Rajapakse said development is not limited to one political party and all should unite disregarding their political parties, to develop the country. It is the responsibility of both ruling and the opposition parties to uplift welfare of the public.
This special meeting was convened to review the progress of development projects that have been completed and to be undertaken in the future.
President focused special attention with regard to renovation of irrigation tanks for which the government has already allocated necessary funds. The President requested the officials yo acce;erate work on these projects. The Attention was also focused to find solution to the kidney disease spreading among the people in the district. The President further said that a massive programme to provide pure drinking water not only to each North Central Province people but to every household, has already been commenced.
The President also advised relevant officials to provide adequate land to farmers who are engaged in chena cultivation, without either harming jungles or water resources.
Paying attention to recent student unrest in the Rajarata University, the President advised the Vice Chancellor to settle the matter amicably as soon as possible.
Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Basil Rajapaksa, Tissa Vitharana, S.B.Dissanayake, W.D.J.Senevirathna, Pavitra Wanniarachchi, Salinda Dissanayake, S.M.Chandrasena, Duminda Dissanayake, Northern Governor Karunarathne Divukgane, Chief Minister S.M.Ranjith Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha members from the district, Ministry Secretaries, Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also participated.(KH)
