    With dawn of this Christmas, fulfill responsibilities towards national reconciliation – President

    “Not only in Christian faith, but also in all religions, there is ample guidance for the people to build a peaceful society while ensuring religious reconciliation”, said President Maithripala Sirisena, adding that “it should be the determination of all to fulfill their respective duties towards national reconciliation, with the dawn of this Christmas”.

     

    He made these remarks at a special Christmas festival held at the President’s House in Colombo, on Tuesday (19th Dec.).

     

    This Christmas festival organized by the Presidential Secretariat was attended by Bishops, priests and sisters. Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith also graced this event.

     

    The Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith delivering a special address, reminded Christian devotees of their responsibility to protect the environment while celebrating the birth of Christ.

     

    The Archbishop of Colombo further said that, today the Holy Father Pope Francis has also given the message of fulfilling responsibilities towards protecting the nature and appreciated the commitment made by the President in protecting the environment.

     

    Expressing his views at the event, President Sirisena said that the government is in the process of preparing a practical National Environmental Action Plan to protect the environment.

     

    The Christmas ceremony was colourful with many items including the carol singings.

     

    Minister and MPs including the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe participated on this occasion.
